Drum Practice Pro for teachers: share drum exercises with your students
Hand a drum exercise to a student as a link
Drum Practice Pro is a free browser drum sequencer with live notation. Teachers use it to build an exercise, share it as a link that opens ready to play, and read the notation with a student on a shared screen. Students need no account and nothing installed.
What students can do without signing up
Everything that matters for practice. A student who has never visited the site before can open your link, press play, hear the exercise with a four-beat count-in, slow it down with the BPM control, switch the metronome on, and read the notation while it loops. They can edit the pattern too - your copy is untouched by anything they do to theirs.
Signing up adds one thing: saving grooves to a profile so they persist between sessions. That is free as well, capped at five saved grooves of up to four bars each on the free plan.
Setting exercises from the grooves library
If the exercise is a standard one - a basic rock beat, four-on-the-floor, a half-time feel, a shuffle - it is probably already in the grooves library with notation and a description. Open it, press Load into sequencer, and the address bar holds a link to exactly that groove which you can copy and hand out. No programming required.
The learn section covers the reading side: staff positions and note heads, note values, counting out loud, and how time signatures change the grid. Those pages are a reasonable place to send a student who is stuck on the notation rather than the pattern.
In a lesson or a classroom
On a shared screen, the grid and the staff side by side tend to do the explaining for you: switch a hit on, and the student sees where it lands on the staff and hears what it does to the groove in the same moment. Building a groove from the bottom up - kick, then snare, then hi-hat - matches the order drummers think in and makes the layering audible.
For hands-on work away from the sequencer, the metronome and the rudiment trainer run standalone. The rudiment trainer listens through the device microphone and scores timing accuracy, which gives a student something objective to work against between lessons.

Questions teachers ask
Can students practice without an account?
Yes. The sequencer, the metronome, the rudiment trainer and every lesson page work with no sign-up - a student opens the link and starts playing. An account is only needed to save grooves to a profile, and that is free too: the free plan keeps up to 5 saved grooves of up to 4 bars each.
How do I share a drum exercise with my students?
Build the pattern in the sequencer and press Share groove. That copies a link which opens the sequencer with your exercise already loaded - same tempo, same time signature, same drum voices - so students can hear it and play along immediately. Neither you nor your students need an account for the link to work.
Can I print the notation?
Yes, with a Pro account. Export PDF turns the groove into an A4 sheet of standard drum notation headed with the groove name, tempo and time signature, ready to print or hand out in a lesson. On the free plan the notation stays on screen, where it redraws live as you edit the pattern.
Is Drum Practice Pro free for classroom use?
Yes. There is no per-seat licence and nothing to buy for a class: every student can build patterns, play them back and read the notation for free. The optional Pro upgrade is per-person and unlocks unlimited bars, unlimited saved grooves and PDF export.
Do students need to install anything?
No. Drum Practice Pro runs in any modern browser on a laptop, Chromebook, tablet or phone, with the drum samples loaded by the page itself. On phones, turning the device to landscape gives the full sequencer grid. It can optionally be installed as a web app from the browser menu.
Can I assign a groove from the library instead of building one?
Yes. Open any pattern in the grooves library and press Load into sequencer - the address bar then holds a link to that exact groove which you can copy and hand out. It is the fastest way to set a standard exercise without programming anything yourself.
